A person was complaining that he had lost several million dollars in the stock market. He as new at investing had borrowed money to buy stocks and now had lost almost everything, including his house after the market crashed. What make you think that the stock market would always go up?
Rich said, people get older but they do not necessarily grow up. Many people run from mom and dad’s shelter to the shelter of a company or the government. Many expect someone else to take care of them or be responsible for their lack of wisdom and common sense. That is why they seek job security or government securities. Too many people spend their lives looking for guarantees and spend all their live avoiding risk, avoiding growing up and always looking for a surrogate parent to take care of them. I know many people who are not able to survive without social security. Today, unfortunately, many people, even highly educated and highly paid people are still counting on the government to take care of them.
Growing up means doing things differently as we grow older. To continually do the same old thing every day of your live is, in many ways, arrested metal and emotional development. The world is changing, growing more sophisticated and so should we.
One of the ways the world is changing is that there is not much job security and financial security anymore. Companies are pushing people out into the cold and cruel world. Companies do not expect to take care of you, once you stop working for them. You did better count on the stock market to take care of you once you stop working. Grow up means being willing to be more and more responsible for yourself, your actions, your continuing education and your maturity. If you want to have a rich and secure financial future, it is imperative to know that markets go up and markets come down and no none is there to protect you. The faster we grow up and face that reality, the better we can the face the future with greater maturity.
Growing up means that you become less and less dependent upon others, and are more and more able to take care of yourself, your needs and needs of others. To me, growing up is lifelong process, a process that many people are avoiding by still seeking job security and financial security provided by someone else, someone other than themselves. Continually growing up is an important habit.
