People say money changes everything but that not exactly true. Money changes the things money can change. It solves the problems money can solve, while amplifying everything else it cannot fix. When I started making more than we earned at our jobs, things changed for us. Not everything but some things. The extra income did not come without nay strings attached and I certainly had to learn to adjust but making a larger income did allow me to feel freer.
As we begin systemizing everything in our businesses, we got a lot of our time back. We no longer needed anything but ourselves to live the life we wanted. This bought a sense of security and confidence that neither of us expected. One of the weird thing about financial freedom is that if you have not experienced it before you do not know what to do.
For the longest time, I was not getting promoted even though I did a great job. My parent raised me to work hard no matter what teaching me that if you put the work in, your efforts will be discovered and rewarded. But that is not how it worked for me. For years as an employee, I would have slave away quietly and diligently in the background, trying to not bring too much attention to myself and hoping someone would notice my effort. I was not getting promoted but I also was not getting fired and that was success to me.
Once I started working for myself though my perspective shifted I started seeing things differently, stopping assuming others had the answers and trusted myself more. When my side hustle started earning me eight times the ten times the salary of my job.
Sometimes the less you want something, the easier it comes. Thought my business, I had learned that nothing is given to you. If you work hard, keep your head down and expect to get rewarded, people just ignore you. You have to ask for something if you want it. Speak up if you want to be herd. Be yourself if you want to be respect.
Once I became an entrepreneur, I did not mind attracting attention to myself. I felt free to share my thoughts without fear of being fired. Starting your own business is own business is one of the best things you can do for your confidence, especially when you can get the business to run itself. That is the real gift of this journey when you get to take your life back into your own hands. And that is worth way more than any promotion.
