For most of us, it is not about the money. It is about the opportunity to live and work the way we want, to finally call the shots. And for those of us with families, building a business is about more than sharing a helpful skill or product with people who need it, it is about spending more time with the people we love, doing the things that we love.
Most entrepreneurs fall into the exact same trap. They start with a desire to create more freedom for themselves and their families, but somewhere along the way they lose the plot. We are always searching for more, wondering if there is a better way to do thinks. But when we are not clear and honest with ourselves about what we want, we lose our way.
Every day, though, I see all kinds of nonsense about how hard it is to run a business and why you should not expect it to be easy. Becoming an entrepreneur is not something one should take lightly, but this line of thinking sets us up to believe the most entrepreneurs accept without question that success should cost us everything.
In spite of its challenge, entrepreneurship is still the best way to give yourself the freedom you want. You just have to do it the right way. In my own life and in the lives of others. I have seen how building a family first business can change everything for you and your loved ones.
Your business should enhance our life, not compete with it. You do not have to buy into the propaganda you see on social medias and hear about in podcasts. You just need to understand how to use a business to create more freedom and stick to your principles. It is not too late. You can still change course and regain control over your life and business. The stuff is not rocket science but it takes internality to make it happen.
